Absolutely one of my top ten comics, and hands down one of the best series ever published by DC. Much of the interior art came courtesy of Nestor Redondo’s studio, but the covers were all Joe Kubert.
One of the things I admire so much about the man’s art is the brooding, haunted quality of his shapes, shadows and looming structures. And the eyes of a Joe Kubert figure, from Ragman to Sgt.Rock to Viking Prince, they contain such depth.
Just an absolute master of the form. If there were a pantheon of the great gods of comic art, Kubert would easily sit beside them all.
